Description

The first buildings of the Anatole France school are from 1890 and were built according to the time characteristics principles, including the extensive use of brick. In 2009, the city launched a project to rehabilitate and extend the site as part of the redevelopment planned around the place Pleyel.

The project of Fabienne Bulle architectural firm proposes to recreate links between heterogeneous appearance of buildings, and comes complete construction cycle by linking the old buildings steeped in history, with more recent constructions.
The facades of new class rooms have been adorned with a second skin of perforated terracotta baguettes in a contemporary implementation consistent with the existing school buildings and terraced bungalows. Terracotta is extend from the facade to the roof that brings a modern envelope."

Fabienne Bulle, project architect explains:
Terracotta bricks are used here in a game of full and empty that is emerging as a checkerboard. A checkerboard that lets light in and allows views while controlling sunshine and thermal effects on the building. A checkerboard, which main effect is to throw on the floors and walls a light lines effect. Entertaining and moving, they then accompany the child in its daily evolution ...
The multiplied modules give a new identity to the facade with sets of shapes and dimensions. The red-orange bring a strong personality. In a brick kaleidoscope of game all the warmth of terracotta comes to animate the facade.
