The role of GRTgaz, a regulated public service provider, is to ensure the proper operation of France's natural gas market in the best interests of all consumers, including:
- manufacturers and gas-fired power stations directly linked to the gas transmission grid, and
- the householders, public authorities and businesses served by the distribution grid, which is fed by the transmission grid.

SMET 71 (Syndicat Mixte d’Etude et de Traitement) was founded in 2004 to treat household and similar waste. It treats the household refuse produced by the 315,000 households in the east of the département of Saône-et-Loire.
The organisation, which is co-owned by various local authorities, operates a waste disposal site for non-hazardous waste (household and similar refuse) at Chagny. Around 73,000 tonnes of waste are delivered to the site each year, in line with regulations. The site has been ISO 14001 certified since 2004.
