The Languedoc-Roussillon regional government, ADEME and everyone involved in Project HSP shared a single challenge: how to make sure the Project's two houses were genuine low-energy homes, the measurement of which was to include the energy consumption from domestic and media appliances.

The challenge was to understand how everyone involved in social housing – builders, landlords and tenants – can work together to influence and improve energy performance.

Professional training through practical projects

The Lycée François Andréossy is a building trades college which has worked in partnership with the Municipality of Castelnaudary and with TERREAL on numerous occasions for many years. Project HSP was ideal for maintaining these relationships, and allowed students to tackle the issues of positive energy construction by way of a specific practical project.

Apprenticeship is more than just accumulating knowledge: it needs to train students to organise their way of thinking.

This type of education draws on a long educational tradition stretching back to the humanists of the Renaissance, who believed that "the learner is not a vase to be filled but a fire to be lit" (Rousseau).
