Responsible Procurement Policy
Terreal and wienerberger work to establish lasting relationships with their suppliers. It's a beneficial commitment for all parties, as it also helps to strengthen partnerships while promoting the exchange of expertise.
Terreal and wienerberger are involved on two fronts: the commitments required of suppliers and the encouragement of a continuous improvement approach to ethical, social and environmental issues.

At wienerberger and Terreal France, we are committed to working for a sustainable future. As leaders in construction materials for building envelopes, we supply solutions for both the new build and renovation markets, and we always strive for the highest social, societal and environmental standards with the aim of providing healthy, sober and resilient housing for current and future generations. Our business is based on respect for people – employees, suppliers, customers and end users – as well as the natural ecosystems and local communities that we operate in.
wienerberger and Terreal France's Purchasing department aims to maintain long-term relationships in line with our CSR commitments. That is why our Responsible Procurement policy is designed to tie in with the wienerberger group's Sustainability Program 2023-2026 and the company's Corporate Social Responsibility policy in France. Our mission in purchasing is to source products and services under the best possible conditions in terms of cost, quality, service, deadlines and environmental, ethical, social and societal criteria. This Responsible Procurement Policy is an integral part of our Purchasing Strategy. It is overseen by a Purchasing Steering Committee.
WIENERBERGER AND TERREAL FRANCE'S COMMITMENTS:
Our Procurement and Purchasing teams undertake to:
- Select suppliers impartially and to treat them fairly and equitably.
- Put out identical calls for tenders to each supplier (identical specifications).
- Include responsible procurement criteria in purchasing documents and in particular in contracts, specifications, processes and procedures.
- Take local small and medium-sized businesses into consideration.
- Ensure the confidentiality of tenders and all information provided by suppliers (Supplier Relations Charter) and particularly any intellectual property.
- Combat all forms of active or passive bribery and corruption, and potential conflicts of interest.
- Pay suppliers on time and help small business with early payments.
- Systematically have our suppliers sign our Code of Conduct, Suppliers' Responsible Procurement Charter and Supplier Relations Charter.
- Ensure that the principles of transparency and traceability are applied throughout the purchasing process.
- Work with companies that employ disabled workers.
- Send out a detailed questionnaire on responsible practices to our 40 largest suppliers to evaluate their actions on sustainable development.
- Work together with our suppliers to achieve our shared objectives.
- Audit suppliers if any doubts are raised by their answers to check in the field that they are meeting the commitments made and talk to them directly about any shortcomings or areas requiring improvement.
WHAT WE EXPECT OF OUR SUPPLIERS:
Suppliers undertake, after signing the Code of Conduct and the Suppliers' Responsible Procurement Charter, to comply with the following points:
Human rights
Suppliers undertake to respect Human Rights as defined by the international conventions, in particular those of the United Nations (UN) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
- Prohibition of forced or mandatory labour.
- Prohibition of child labour, in accordance with international standards.
- Freedom of association and collective bargaining rights
- The fight against all forms of discrimination in employment.
Ethics and transparency
Suppliers undertake to conduct their business with integrity and transparency, abstaining from all forms of corruption, fraud and unfair practices. Employees must be provided with information on all these points.
Environmental commitments
- Resource management: suppliers undertake to use natural resources in a responsible manner and implement practices aimed at minimising environmental impacts. We expect them to optimise their use of raw materials by using recycled and/or renewable materials and by reducing their energy and water consumption.
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions with the introduction of specific processes.
Working conditions
Suppliers undertake to provide their employees with safe, healthy working conditions, including:
- Introducing health and safety at work measures in line with the relevant regulations.
- Fair pay in compliance with legislation on the minimum wage.
- Legal working hours and the necessary rest periods.
- Use of recyclable and renewable materials wherever possible.
Waste management
- Introduction of recycling and reuse schemes.
- Appropriate management of hazardous waste in accordance with current regulations.
Product impact
- The supplier undertakes to comply with all applicable regulations concerning hazardous substances, to disclose their presence in the products supplied, and to actively look for less harmful alternatives.
- Assessment and reduction of the products' environmental footprint throughout their life cycle, and transparency on their composition and environmental impact.
- Use of recyclable and renewable materials wherever possible.

wienerberger and Terreal France expect a high level of commitment from their suppliers and wish to develop ethical, lasting and profitable collaborative relationships with them. As part of our continuous improvement policy, we will be asking our suppliers to register and assess themselves on the EcoVadis platform.

wienerberger and Terreal France reserve the right to visit suppliers and conduct audits to ensure that they are complying with the declarations made. If any non-conformities are found, the supplier will be required to implement an improvement plan in collaboration with Terreal and wienerberger to correct the deviations identified.

wienerberger and Terreal France reserve the right to terminate the contract in the event of a supplier's serious or repeated failure to meet their social and environmental commitments. The decision to terminate a contract will be taken by the steering committee.

wienerberger and Terreal France undertake to produce a dashboard to monitor the implementation of their policy based on performance indicators measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of their procurement policy across the supply chain.

wienerberger and Terreal France will take due note of any certifications, labels and ratings (e.g. EcoVadis, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 20400) that its suppliers are able to provide.
