Circular economy, study with ENSAL for the recovery of construction site soil

Since 2015, TERREAL has regularly offered study topics to young architectural students at ENSAL, whose mission is to experiment and prototype with materials for architectural projects. Nearly 5 projects by some thirty students have been presented in this way, two of which have led to the filing of patents. In 2021, Terreal proposed to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon (ENSAL) a study partnership as part of its students' curriculum. This project, in line with the Group's commitment, highlights the interest of using these soils in combination with clay products, such as the Brique Hauteur d'Etage.

Reclamation of soil from the Toulouse metro with a temporary consortium of companies

BOUYER LEROUX, EDILIANS and TERREAL, leaders in the terracotta industry in France, have responded to a call for expressions of interest launched by TISSEO-INGENIERIE for the recovery of excavated material from the third line of the Toulouse metro and its connection to Line B.
With sites in the immediate vicinity of the construction site, the three companies have joined forces in a temporary joint venture (GME) in order to experiment with the recovery of excavated materials by integrating them into the manufacturing process of terracotta materials.

Terreal has adopted an Environmental & Energy Policy based on a management system.
We are making daily progress towards reducing our environmental footprint and working to generate a positive impact on our ecosystems. In order to structure and harmonise the approach, all our sites will eventually be certified ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.Today, Terreal has adopted an Environment & Energy Policy.

ECOCEA

Working with ECOCEA makes TERREAL's Chagny plant the first tileworks in the world to use biomethane (refined biogas produced from household waste) to fire its tiles, cutting its natural gas consumption by around a third. Thanks to this project to use biomethane from SMET 71's ECOCEA plant at Chagny, TERREAL was the winner of one of three Circular Economy Awards at the 6th Burgundy Economic Forum, held by the Saône-et-Loire branch of the MEDEF employers' federation on 20 November 2014.

“Titan West” project to reduce our energy consumption

TERREAL has invested 6.4 million euro for the 2020 phase of the TITAN West project at its sites based in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Eager to develop its activities while limiting its environmental impact, TERREAL is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The Group has therefore just entered into a large-scale partnership with the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region to modernize its production equipment in Roumazières, Montpon and Chasseneuil.

What is meant by eco-friendly construction?

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the construction industry is now using environmentally friendly building materials in new buildings. With the RE2020 regulation entering into force on 1 January 2022, eco-friendly construction is becoming the norm. Building an eco-friendly house has many advantages for its occupants, but also for the environment. Not only are these houses nice to live in, they are designed to minimise dependence on external energy and provide high levels of thermal comfort throughout the year.

A quarry redeveloped as a photovoltaic park

The former Laplaud quarry is writing a new chapter in its history with the installation of a 14-hectare photovoltaic park, 100% made in New Aquitaine.
Aware of its role in the conservation of resources and biodiversity, the Group is taking steps to limit its use of clay and sand. We are committed to designing quarry projects that have the least possible impact, to revitalise natural environments and enrich biodiversity before, during and after exploitation.

Chagny 2, Terreal France's first ISO 50 001 certified plant

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is a strategic and priority issue for the Group. We are mobilised on a daily basis to improve our energy efficiency and pursue ambitious programmes to reduce consumption. To this end, our low-carbon roadmap, comprising more than 400 short, medium and long-term actions, is already having a positive impact on Terreal's factories and will continue to do so in the years to come.

Terreal France member of the French Business Climate Pledge

What is the "French Business Climate Pledge"? An initiative of the MEDEF (Mouvement des Entreprises de France), mobilising a group of companies voluntarily committed to the fight against climate change, with the aim of accelerating investment by French companies in low-carbon solutions.
In order to accelerate the transition to low-carbon technologies and to reduce our environmental footprint, we have defined a low-carbon roadmap to avoid, reduce and offset CO2 emissions. Described precisely for Terreal France, it is currently under construction for the whole Group for the period 2025 - 2030 - 2050.
